It is common for accidents to occur in the bathroom. For instance, one of your family members can slip and fall on the ground. Young children can also unintentionally lock themselves in the bathroom. When any of these occurs you have to unlock the door from the outside. Here is a guide on how to open the door from the outside:

Push-button lock

Insert a pin or rod into the little hole on the outside of the bathroom doorknob if the bathroom has a push-button lock. The pin or rod should next be inserted into the small hole. When you push the pin, it should open the door on the inside by pushing the button lock. When you hear a click, turn the doorknob and then open the door. The sound should warn you that the push button lock isn’t working.

Turning tab locks

If your bathroom door has a turning tab lock, a little flathead screwdriver should be inserted into the doorknob hole. If the screwdriver won’t go into the hole, wiggle it around.

Once the screwdriver is in the hole, turn it a quarter-turn clockwise to unlock the door. Then you should enter the bathroom by turning the doorknob.

When the doorknob isn’t working

In some cases, you may find that the bathroom doorknob is not working. Do you leave your kid or loved one in the bathroom? Here is what you should do.

If you have a push-button door, bend a wire coat hanger until it becomes straight. Then, once you hear a click and the wire shifts forward, press it firmly into the doorknob hole. The striker latch should then be released by twisting the knob.

A putty knife, in addition to the hanger, can be used. If you want the best results, make sure the blade is at least 3-4 inches long. The blade should then be inserted into the gap between the door jamb and the knob, with the knife’s handle angled towards the knob. Continue pushing until the tool’s blade goes forward, bringing the latch closer to the knob.

Conclusion

These are a few of the ways in which you can open the bathroom door. When opening, take care not to damage the door. For ideal results, it is wise that you hire the services of a dc mobile locksmith.
